NRNs Want Citizenship For Investment In Nepal

Issue 42, October 17, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 13, 2010: talking to the RSS, Chairman of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) of the Nepal sector Hom Nath Acharya said, "The provision that Nepali citizenship will be canceled if anyone receives foreign citizenship has become obsolete; Nepal will see more investment if the government annuls its policy that makes abandonment of Nepali citizenship mandatory for those holding foreign passports; if that happens, those who return to Nepal will feel that they are at home and at the same time it will encourage them to invest here," myrepublica.com writes.

NRNA Chairman Devman Hirachan also supports Acharya’s argument, and said, “the annulling of citizenship of Nepalis taking foreign passports has upset many NRNs; they have no official proof to prove themselves as the citizens of Nepal. Thus, the government should annul this provision since they are not interested in bringing investment to Nepal without being the citizens of Nepal," myrepublica.com quotes.
