Sincere NC Leader Bhim Tamang Passes Away

Issue 49, December 2, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 1, 2012: former fighter against the despotic Rana-Shah dynastic rule and sincere NC Leader Bhim Bahadur Tamang passed away in Kathmandu today morning after a heart attack. After the regular morning walk, he had difficulty in breathing. He was rushed to the Norvic Hospital in Kathmandu but he died on the way.

Bhim Bahadur Tamang was one of the sincere leaders of the NC. He was sidelined for his honesty, as only the most unscrupulous leaders got a chance of doing everything in the NC. The tradition of shrewd leaders getting a big hand in running the NC continues today making the sincere leader such as Tamang to suffer throughout his life from even meeting his daily needs.

Bhim Tamang along with other top NC leaders such as BP Koirala, Ganeshman Singh, GP Koirala, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and other leaders were successful to remove the Rana faction of the Rana-Shah dynastic rule in 1950s and introduce democracy briefly in Nepal.

Then, remnant of the Rana-Shah despotic rule: Mahendra put Koiralas, Ganeshman, and other leaders and Bhim Tamang behind bars, and took over the power from the democratically elected government of the NC leaders in 1960. After the release from the prison in the late 1960s, Tamang followed BP Koirala and Ganeshman in exile in India.

Following the reconciliatory policy of the NC, Bhim Tamang followed BP Koirala and Ganeshman back to Nepal in 1976, and actively engaged in putting back democracy in Nepal. Even though the then regime of the Shah dynastic ruler did not allow any sorts of political parties except for the no-party Panchayat system, the NC and CPN-UML jointly managed to over throw the corrupt Panchayat system.

Since then, Bhim Tamang had been actively in politics and even became the Minister of Law but he remained sincere and did not make any illegal money, as did his shrewd colleagues. Nepal missed such a sincere leader at the time Nepal has been suffering from the drought of honest leaders.

The irony is that the NC is mourning the demise of Tamang for three days but the NC leaders neglected his contribution to the NC and to the nation while he was alive. Other sincere NC leaders have been quietly waiting for following Tamang, as sincerity does not count in the NC party.
