Issue 34, August 25, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 20, 2013: the ’gorkhapatra’ yesterday published the news with the picture of the Gata Chitra lost 27 years ago stating it has been back in Nepal. It was transferred to the National Archive on Friday, August 16, 2013.

The Gata Chitra was painted in Nepal in the Nepal Samvant 210 means 1090, and in the Nepal Samvat 290 means 1170 in the Gregorian calendar. The paintings are related to both the Vaisnavi and Savisist sects of the Hindu religion. Microfilms of these paintings were done in between 1970 and 1986.

The Gat Chitra was stolen in 1986.

A company named ‘Kristi’ has put this Gata Chitra for actions at US $ 150,000 in March 2013. A German professor informed the Nepalese authorities that a person from France put the Gata Chitra paintings at the auctions in America.

Then, the chief of the National Archive informed on the stolen paintings called Gata Chitra to the Interpol.

‘Kristi’ returned these paintings to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal in June 2013. However, Kristi did not want to disclose the name of the person that had sent these paintings to America for auctions.
