Delay In Forming A New Government

Issue 09, February 27, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

February 20, 2011: It has been already 17 days since Jhalanath Khanal is elected to a new prime minister on February 3 but he has not formed a full-fledged cabinet yet. His minister Ganga Lal Tuladhar: the newly appointed spokesman for the government has said that the discussion on the formation of a new cabinet will go on until the end of the expiry of the term of the Constituent Assembly-cum-parliament if the leaders of the political parties continue to talk but not act. This is what former president of Nepal Bar Association Biswokanta Mainlai had advised to former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal to stick to his office without recommending the president to call the session of the parliament until the end of the term of the Constituent Assembly. Then, the prime minister can run the country until the next revolution. This might be what Mr. Khanal is doing. He has been expert on holding the election to a new prime minister hostage in the name of electing a new prime minister based on the consensus politics but he got elected on the majority votes. Mr. Khanal might be able to stick to his office in this way but he will need to face the wrath of the people because he is not following the will of the people for completing the peace process and the writing of a new constitution.

One of the Vice-chairmen Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said on Saturday, February 19 that his party has not set any preconditions to participate in the government led by CPN-UML chairman Jhalanath Khanal; conflict within the CPN-UML is the main reason for the delay in forming a full-fledged cabinet, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

One of the leaders of CPN-UML K.P Oli has said on Saturday, February 19, 2011 that his party is not for giving in the Home Ministry to the UCPN-Maoist at any cost. His colleague former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has also said the same thing. Both Mr Oli and Mr Nepal were defeated people in the general elections held in April 2008. So, they are not willing to follow the will of the people for completing the peace process and the writing of a new constitution. They just want to hang on in the current political situation to deceive the people and stay on in power.

President of NC Sushil Koirala and his fellow NC leaders demand to scrap the seven-point agreement the chairmen of UCPN-Maoist and CPN-UML have reached on February 3. The people have rejected these so-called leaders, too in the general elections. So, they have not a little bit of feeling for the welfare of the people but they are egoist and want to stay on power by hook or crook, and they don’t want to complete the peace process and the writing of a new constitution, and they are inviting a new revolution as wanted by some of the leaders of the UCPN-Maoist.

Speaking to reporters at the Biratnagar Airport today morning, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the agreement he has reached with the chairman of CPN-UML is in the national interest and does not cheat anybody as claimed by some leaders of the CPN-UML particularly KP Oli, and his party is ready to join the Khanal government at any time but leaders of CPN-UML have been trying to tear down the Khanal government; Prachanda and his two Vice-chairmen Vaidya and Bhattarai are in Biratnagar to train the party cadres of the Kochila State, nepalnews.com writes.
