Import Restriction On Silver

Issue 16, April 18, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

April 16, 2010; In view of the export of silver to India due to the silver price difference between Nepal and India, the Government of Nepal has restricted the import of silver to 100 kilogram per day believing the export of silver to India would be reduced and at the same time, the foreign currency used for importing silver would be saved.

However, it is the illusion of the incompetent government headed by Madhav Nepal, as neither the foreign currency would be saved from the import restriction on silver nor the export of silver from Nepal to India would be reduced as long as the price of silver in India would be higher than in Nepal.

So, if the government were really competent then it would have increased the price of silver imposing an additional tax on the imported silver for making the price of silver on a par with the price of silver in India.
