By KTM Metro Reporter

July 25, 2011: in a notice published in a state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ today, Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has warned of cutting off the power to ministries that fail in paying the bills within 15 days of the publication of the notice. All together 21 ministries have defaulted on paying electricity bills. The unpaid bill has reached Rs 662.4 millions.

The highest unpaid bill of Rs 175 million is of the Home Ministry then of Rs 152 million of the Ministry of Health, Rs 136 million of the Peace and Reconstruction Ministry, and so on.

NEA in its notice has said that the ministries have failed in paying the electricity bills despite the repeated reminders sent to them. If the ministers ignore the warning of the NEA, soon the whole secretariat building called Singhadurbar will be without electricity. However, it might make any differences to them as most of these ministers have adjust to live without electricity, as the NEA has been providing the power only for a half of the 24 hours of a day.
