NC And UML To Launch Campaign For A Lasting Peace

Issue 01, January 3, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On December 29, 2009, leaders of NC and CPN-UML have decided to launch a political campaign for a lasting peace and writing a new constitution mobilizing their cadres imitating the campaign of the UCPN-Maoist. They have also decided to mobilize their cadres to go head-on confrontation with the Maoist cadres. They also have said that the precondition for writing a new constitution is settling the issue of Maoist combatants.

What the leaders of the NC and CPN-UML have been saying are quite contradictory. The Madhav administration has frozen the peace process since he became the Prime Minister. He has been shouting against the integration of Maoist combatants through the mouth of his Defense Minister Bidhya Bhandari. Every politically sensible Nepalis knows that a lasting peace is not possible without the integration of Maoist combatants following the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. These NC and CPN-UML guys have been doing every thing possible to cover up their anti-peace process mindset and anti-constitution-writing process, and clearly showing that they are not faithful to the people for institutionalizing democracy and the rule of law broken by the President at the urge of these guys.
