Arson And Fighting Among Cadres In Dailekh

January 24, 2013: NC has condemned the police and Young Communist League cadres' attack on the peaceful protests by the opposition parties in Dailekh on Wednesday. In a statement, NC said more than 40 of its cadres including the party's Dailekh chief Krishna Kumar BC, secretary Bhupendra Shahi, joint secretary Resham BK were injured in the attacks carried out by the police and Maoist's cadres. “People have come to the streets against the government. Police fired 500 tear gas cells and baton charged the people in Dailekh. NC condemns the terror unleashed on people who were protesting peacefully,” the statement further said, according to nepalnews.com of today. However, NC missed to state how its cadres peacefully set fire on the offices of Maoists, and pelted stones at each other between the NC cadres and the Maoist cadres in Dailekh.

UCPN-Maoist has condemned attacks on its Dailekh district office by opposition activists. In a statement late yesterday, spokesperson for the Maoists Agni Sapkota said that the opposition parties attacked the party's office as they failed to sabotage the party's local convention. Spokesperson Sapkota termed the attacks un-democratic and said these were the signs of the opposition plotting to launch a counter-revolution, according to the nepalnews.com, today.

Nepal Police Headquarters has summoned three police officials stationed in Dailekh a day after more than 50 persons were injured in clashes between the opposition and the Maoist cadres. An official at the police headquarters said Dailekh police chief DSP Sharada Prasad Chaudhary and Inspectors Indra Prasad Subedi and Kiran Neupane have been summoned to the capital. "They have been summoned to the Capital to explain why there was a lapse in security in Dailekh yesterday," the official said, according to nepalnews.com

Nepal Police suspended three police officers such as DSP Sharada Prasad Chaudhary, Police Inspector duo Indra Subedi and Kiran Neupane of Dailekh Police Office today, that failed to maintain security during the Prime Minister’s visit in the district yesterday. Talking to THT Online, spokesperson for the Nepal Police DIG Keshav Adhikari said that the police took such action to ease further investigations into the security lax, according to THT ONLINE of today.

Ministry of Home Affairs has summoned Dailekh CDO Umesh Dhakal to the capital a day after at least 50 people were injured in clashes between Maoist cadres and opposition sympathizers in the district headquarters. It has also formed a committee to probe into the incident. Spokesperson for MoHA Shanker Koirala said Dhakal has been summoned to Kathmandu and his replacement named. The four-member probe committee, headed by MoHA Joint Secretary Laxmi Prastad Dhakal has been told to submit its report within seven days, the ministry said in a statement, according to nepalnews.com & THT ONLINE of today.

Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Home Minister Bijaya Kumar Gacchedar today admitted that there were "serious security lapses" that helped the confrontation between the cadres of the UCPN-Maoist and the opposition parties in Dailekh to get worse. Speaking to the reporters after a meeting of the UDMF, Deputy Prime Minister Gacchedar said that the security arrangement for the function attended by the Prime Minister was lax. The chief district officer, the district police chief and an Inspector have been transferred and that they will be investigated, he informed, according to nepalnews.com of today.

The standing committee meeting of the CPN-UML held today has directed the party cadres to hold anti-government protests across the country against the police suppression in the peaceful demonstrations held by the opposition parties in Dailekh yesterday. In a press statement, party secretary Bishnu Poudel said that hundreds of YCL cadres ferried from Surkhet and police personnel under the command of Superintendent of Police Mohan Raj Joshi attacked the anti-government protestors, according to the RSS news posted on thehimalayantimes.com today.

Rastriya Janamorchan Nepal has criticized the government’s move of transferring top police officers of Dailekh terming it a ploy to influence the ongoing interrogation of accused in journalist Dekendra Thapa’s murder case. In a press statement issued today, party Chairman Chitra Bahadur KC claimed that the government took such move intending to dismiss the murder case, according to THT ONLINE of today.
