Demanding To Annul The Ruling Of SC On National Dress

Issue 35, August 28, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 24, 2011: Democratic Madheshi Organization (DMO) yesterday has submitted a memorandum to the Supreme Court (SC) of Nepal demanding its ruling on the national dress to annul, as it goes against the aspiration of the Nepalis of different ethnic groups for making every dress in Nepal a national dress but going against it the SC has ruled ‘daura surval’ a national dress that is not acceptable to the Nepalis of other ethnic groups. So, they demanded the SC to annual the ruling on making ‘daura surval’ a national dress.

In its memo, the DMO has stated that ‘daura surval’ is not acceptable as a national outfit in the multi-ethnic and multi-lingual country Nepal. Madheshi lawmakers have been opposing the ruling of the SC on making ‘daura surval’ the national outfit, as it goes against the spirit of the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007.
