Fuel Shortage Caused by Assault of Minister of State

Issue 47, November 22, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The employees of the state administration have gone on strike in the Parsa District protesting against the assault of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Cooperative Karima Begum on the Chief District Officer of the Parsa District allegedly causing the shortage of fuel in the Kathmandu Valley. The state-run oil company called Nepal Oil Corporation often says in public that it has sufficient oil storage in the Valley to last more than three weeks. However, on the pretext of the strike in the Parsa District for four days, it has stop delivering fuel to the private companies. So, the government of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal must have something on the mind particularly of making money to create the fuel shortage in the Kathmandu Valley.

On November 10, 2009, Minister of State for Agriculture and Cooperative Karima Begum slapped the Chief of District Officer of Parsa not providing her with a sleek car provoking the state employees to protest against the assault of the State Minister on one of them. They have submitted a memo to the Prime Minister and Home Minister for taking strong actions against the State Minister but the Home Minister has not allowed the police to arrest the State Minister for the public offense, yet.

At the same time, Home Minister has tipped off the State Minister to make up a story to cover up her offensive act. So, she has invented a story and telling it in public that the CDO has held her hand so she had to slap him to protect her honor. Ministers of the current government of Prime Minister Madhav Nepal have been very smart to cover up their illegal acts even in public.

One of the associations of the state employees has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister on November 15, 2009 with a deadline of five days making the State Minister apologize for her assault on the CDO.
