Government Insensitive to People’s Need

Issue 39, September 30, 2007

By KTM Metro Reporter

On September 27, 2007, the president of the National Consumers’ forum demanded the government make an easy supply of petroleum products even adjusting their prices to a higher level in order to ensure the smooth supply of the daily essential goods for the greatest festival called Dashain. Such a plea for smooth supply of petroleum products has gone to astray. However, the parallel market has them at the double the government prices. So, some logical-thinking Nepalis believe that the government has been deliberately creating shortage of petroleum products to make money for the upcoming election. Some reports say that the Nepal Oil Corporation diverted some of the tankers carrying petroleum products to the parallel markets for selling them at higher prices.
