Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China

2011/10/01: The distinguished Chairman of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party Mr. Bijukchee, Ladies and Gentlemen, my dear friends,

Good Afternoon! First, I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party for holding this Celebration for the 62nd Anniversary of the Founding of the PRC, and I am very much honored to be invited and share my experiences with you.

October 1st, 1949 is a great day, which is always worth being celebrated by the Chinese people. On this day, the People's Republic of China was founded and the history of a semi-colonial and semi-feudal society in China was ended. The Chinese people stood up and the Chinese nation opened a new era. During the 62 years, the Chinese Communist Party has led the Chinese people of all nationalities to withstand various challenges and to successfully find a road of socialism with Chinese characteristics according with the development situation of China under the ever-changing global environment.

Especially during over three decades after the introduction of the reform and opening up policies, China's national economy has achieved leapfrog development. The living standards of Chinese people have been notably promoted, and the building of society, culture and the Party has achieved comprehensive improvement. China's total economic output reached US$5.88 trillion in 2010, over 16 times that of 1978, rising to 9.3% of the world's total from 1.8% in 1978. The share of China's per capita income comparable to the world average grew from 24.9% in 2005 to 46.8% in 2010. The Chinese people are now making great efforts to build a harmonious society and a moderately prosperous society in all respects under the guidance of the Scientific Outlook on Development.

Thanks to its pursuit of peaceful and common development, China has made major contributions to world prosperity and stability while it has undergone profound changes. Since its entry into the WTO in 2001, China has imported goods worth nearly US$750 billion every year, and created over 14 million jobs for those exporting countries and regions. By the end of 2009, China had given assistance worth RMB 256.3 billion to 161 countries and over 30 international and regional organizations, reduced and canceled 380 debts incurred by 50 heavily indebted poor countries and least-developed countries, trained 120,000 people for other developing countries, and sent 21,000 medical personnel and nearly 10,000 teachers abroad to help other countries. China cannot develop itself in isolation from the rest of the world, and global development cannot be maintained well without China.

On August 1, 1955, China and Nepal established diplomatic relations and this opened a new chapter of friendly exchanges between the two countries. During 56 years, regardless of how the international and domestic situation changed, China and Nepal have always maintained mutual benefit and friendly cooperation in bilateral relations, and mutual standing and mutual support in international affairs, which set a good example of equal relations between countries, no matter big and small. Equality and mutual trust in politics, win-win environment in economic cooperation and mutual exchanges in cultural enrichment together compose the vivid portrait of our bilateral relations. In the future, I wish to promote our traditional friendship and friendly cooperation together with you dear friends.

Happy Dashain to you!

Thank you.
