Referendum On Prime Ministerial Candidates
By KTM Metro Reporter
August 06, 2010: a vote on electing a Prime Minister held today has been more a referendum on the candidates than a simple election as indicated by the results of the votes each candidates has received.
Chairman of UCPN-Maoist has received 213 yes votes means 25 legislators of his own party have not voted for him, 99 votes have gone against him means all the NC legislators have not voted against him, too; 156 legislators have not voted any one of the candidates means legislators belonging to the CPN-UML, and some Madheshi political parties have been holding the election to a ransom of a tow-third majority.
Parliamentary party leader of NC Ram Chandra Poudel received 122 yes votes and 245 no votes; 195 legislators have not bothered to vote him.
The results of the fourth round of election have clearly indicated that the popularity of both the candidates has waned. Both of them have done worst in the fourth election than in the previous three elections. Legislators have been tired of repeating the same story, as both of them could not garner a simple majority not to mention the two-third majority.
The results of the fourth round of election have also shown that Indian envoy Shyam Sharan could not play any role in the fourth round of election held on August 6, 2010. Obviously, most of the political leaders except for some Madheshi leaders have seen the Indian envoy is an unwanted guest trying to give unsolicited sermons to the political leaders. Mr. Sharan’s failure in influencing any one of the political leaders is the clear answer to the political leaders that often repeat the foreign interference in the Nepalese politics. Certainly, anybody can take Mr. Sharan’s Nepal visit at the time of election is an indication of Indian interference in the Nepalese politics.
Mr. Sharan came to Kathmandu on Wednesday, August 4 apparently to influence the election held on Friday, August 6, 2010. He has met with all the major political leaders and made a courtesy call on the President, and returned back home on Thursday, August 05, 2010.
