issue 38, September 18, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 15, 2011: speaking at the inaugural function of the second convention of China South-Asia Friendship Organizations Forum jointly held by Nepal-China Society and Nepal-China Executives Council in Kathmandu yesterday, Prime Minster Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said that China is bordering on five nations out of eight-nation South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC); so, China should join in the SAARC, as its involvement in the SAARC has been inevitable now as had been to the UN in 1971, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.

In addition, Dr. Bhattarai has said that the relations between China and India have been eased as shown by the increased volume of trade between these countries; both India and China have been the fastest growing economies of the world with nearly double-digit growth; both countries need peace and harmony for continuing their rapid economic growth.

Dr Bhattarai proposed to run an electric train between China and India through Nepal so as to link the fastest growing economies of the world stating Nepal could be a strong bridge to link these two countries rather than be sandwiched between these two giants.

Speaking at the same forum, Chinese ambassador to Nepal Yang Haulan reminded the age-old economic and cultural ties between the South Asian countries and China that had greatly contributed to the economic, social and cultural development of the region.
