Forestland Grab Attempt By Minister

February 24, 2013: In a showdown, locals at the Bishnu Nagar Community Forest Committee stood up to Minister for Land Reform and Management Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and foiled his alleged attempt on registering tens of hectares of forestland in the name of some land mafias. District Land Measurement Office in collusion with the District Revenue Office of Nawalparasi had started to register a large chunk of the Kawasoti-based community forest in the name of 78 persons including Bam Bahadur Gaha Magar of Devchuli VDC. The minister’s attempt was to acquire 47 hectares of the forestland, so far protected by the Bishnu Nagar Community Forest Users Committee, according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday.
Past ministers holding the portfolio of forest became the most corrupt ministers and instruments of deforestation in Nepal. So, they were the national criminals liable to punishment for the crime against humanity as the deforestation was the crime against humanity. The current minister was not exceptional.
