Four-party Political Mechanism Holding Talks With Opposition

Issue 32, August 11, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 7, 2013: the four-party political mechanism held separate meetings with the CPN-Maoist-led 33-party alliance and the Upendra Yadav-led Federal Democratic Front-Nepal at its Nayabneswor office yesterday, according to the news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’

At the meeting, the CPN-Maoist-led alliance tabled an 18-point concept to bridge the gap between the pro- and anti-election parties. It includes the cancellation of the election schedule, annulment of the electoral laws, dissolution of the interim government, and holding a round table conference of all the political parties represented in the previous CA. These demands are not new but brought forward at the meeting.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya said that the country should move forward building a consensus among all the political parties on all the political issues, as the consensus of the four parties on these issues could not resolve the current political crisis.

UCPN-Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that amendments to the 25-point ordinance might be possible to meet the demands of the 33-party alliance. Leader Shrestha also said that the four-party political mechanism would formally comment on the demands of the opposition parties only after holding discussions within it.

The Federal Democratic Front at the meeting with the four-party political mechanism tabled a six-point concept including the resignation of Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi from the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal, retaining the CA strength of 601-member and extending the deadline for the voter’s registration to register the missed voters.

Front coordinator Upendra Yadav said that the four-party political mechanism leaders kept silent over the concept put forward at the meeting.

The scheduled meeting with the Federal Social party led by Ashok Rai could not be held due to the technical difficulties and it would be held on Wednesday.

The CPN-UML Standing Committee yesterday decide to stick to the November 19 for holding the elections to a new CA, it should not be postponed at any cost, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
