In Support Of Dr KC

August 6, 2017

Kathmandu: In support of hunger-striker Dr Govinda KC that has been demanding to pass the Medical Education Bill pending at the parliament, the Solidarity For Dr Govinda KC Alliance held a rally at Maitighar in Kathmandu, and then marched to Nayabaneswor, and held a corner meeting in which former Chief Justice Sushila Karki addressed on Saturday, August 5, 2017.

It has been 13 days since Dr KC went on hunger strike but the government has been taking time to meet his demands. Representatives of the government held dialogues with the representatives of Dr KC but they had not reached any understandings or agreements. However, the Nepal Radio morning news today stated that the government is reaching an understanding with the representatives of Dr KC.

Dr Jivan Chhetri: a member of the talk team of Dr KC has accused the government of not taking any interest in meeting the demands of Dr KC, and the Medical Education Bill was not passed in the parliament due to the lobby of the private medical colleges, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated.

Coordinator of the government talk team also Secretary to the Ministry of Education Shanta Bahadur Shrestha said that the government met most of the demands of Dr KC but only those the talk team could not meet remained; probably Medical Education Bill would be passed next week, the talks had been inclusive because of the lack of trust between the talks teams, the news in “gorkhapatra” stated.

Prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had sat with opposition leader KP Oli and Chairman of Maoist-Center Prachanda, and reached an agreement to address the demands of Dr KC. Probably, Secretary Shrestha might be right in saying the Medical Education Bill would be passed next week.
