By KTM Metro Reporter

April 18, 2013: at the opening of the special ceremony to mark the golden jubilee of Nepal Red Cross Society in Kathmandu yesterday, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav said that service to the humanity was the biggest and the best religion of the world, and also said that the contribution of the Society to providing the humanitarian service was praiseworthy, according to the news posted on ‘gorkhapataonline.com’.

“It is admirable that the Society has spent its 50 golden years in the service of people and community through its skilled volunteers,” said President Dr. Yadav, and that the organization had carried out its duties responsibly during the periods of violence and insurgency.

Speaking at the same platform, Minister for Health and Population Bidhyadhar Malik said that the cooperation with the Red Cross was effective and productive in achieving the Millennium Development Goals set by the government. He lauded the role of the Society in contributing to the areas of health, education, public awareness and disaster management, and informed that the government was teaming up with other organizations that were similar to the Society for providing services to the people and communities.

Chairman of Nepal Red Cross Society Sanjeev Thapa said that national level planning and programs were formulated this year with the slogan of ‘much nearer with the community’ to enhance the effectiveness of the organization at the community level.
