Corrupt Political Parties And Their Leaders In Nepal

July 10, 2013: the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has started off an investigation into the corruption case against the current minister for physical infrastructures, transport and urban development Chhabi Raj Pant for transferring about 200 ropani (one ropani= 75’x75’) state-owned land in Bhaktapur to his relatives and family members when he was a secretary to the ministry of land reform, and former minister for information and communication Raj Kishore Yadav for taking the bribe of Rs 50 million while appointing Digmabar Jha to the Chairman of Nepal Telecommunication Authority, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today.

 

Notorious 'don' Parshuram Basnet facing the charge of amassing properties through illegal means, admitted that he wouldn’t have been released from jail had he not been central member of CPN-UML affiliated ‘Yuva Sangh Nepal’. Basnet, also known as ‘don’ due to his involvement in various criminal activities including money laundering, said that his organization called ‘Yuva Sangh Nepal’ and CPN-UML helped him secure his release, according to nepalnews.com.

 

After being released by the Special Court in bail, he expressed sincere thanks to the CPN-UML party for its help in releasing him from jail. “I could have been in jail for the next four years if I didn’t have the backing of my organization and CPN-UML,” he said addressing his family members and Yuva Sangh activists who had reached the Central Jail to celebrate his release, writes nepalnews.com

 

A survey conducted by Transparency International Nepal has revealed that Nepal's political parties and their leaders are the most corrupt institutions and persons in Nepal among all surveyed, according to nepalnews.com.
