Eight-day Festival Indra-jatra Begins

September 16, 2013: Indrajatra has started off today after the pulling up a pole called Indradhoj. It will be standing for eight days. During the festival, various religious and cultural events are held.

 

Lakhe dance, Sawabhaku and Pulukisi dances are held in Kathmandu. Buddhist priests hold Pancha Buddha dance. Dances of mother goddess are held, too.

 

Chariots of Living Goddess Kumari, God Ganesh and God Batuk Bhairava are pulled to the south and then north of Kathmandu, and finally to the center.

 

The festival ends on the eighth day of the festival. The pole is pulled down and then taken to a Vishnumati River, and burned it down on the night of the eighth day.
