British Development Assistance for Nepal

On April 03, 2009, in its morning news, the State-run Radio Nepal stated that the British Government would provide Nepal with the development assistance of Rs 20 billion for three-year period. The money would be spent on peace process, and other development activities including building of physical infrastructures. British Minister for International Development Mike Foster is in Nepal to unveil the development assistance program.

British Minister Mike Foster met with former Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress Girija Prasad Koirala, Home Minister Bamdev Gautam, and Chairman of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist, and inquired about the peace process, army integration and constitution crafting, and told them that all political parties needed to work together on these vital matters, and any decisions on these subject matters taken by the Government of Nepal would be acceptable to the British Government.

During the meeting with the British Minister, Former Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress Koirala complained to the British Minister Foster that the Maoists’ activities have weakened democracy in Nepal.
