Insult to Tharus

On May 17, 2009, at a press conference, Chairman of Tharuhut Autonomous Council Laxman Tharu has said that acceptance of the ‘Autonomous Madhesh Province’ is the insult to the entire population of the Tharus.
The CPN-UML has given in writing to the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) that it is committed to enforce the Eight-point Agreement the government has reached with the United Democratic Madheshi Front on February 28, 2008 to secure the support of the MPRF for the to-be-formed joint government of CPN-UML and NC. One of the Clauses of the agreement is to set up an ‘Autonomous Madhesh Province’. However, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has been deadly against any sort of an Autonomous Madhesh Province in the past.
