August 14, 2012: Devyani International Pvt. Ltd: the owner of the chain of restaurants in a notice to the government today said that it has shut down KFC and Pizza Hut at Durbar Marg and Thapathali in Kathmandu following some of the workers manhandling the management staff including human resource officer; however, All Nepal Hotel and Restaurants Workers Association in a statement said that the management announced the lockout of the restaurants without even informing the employees, writes nepalnews.com.
We don’t know yet whether this is linked to the Vaidhya-Maoists’ campaign against the foreign names and companies in Nepal or not. They had already shut down academic institutions with foreign names, and removed the billboards advertising foreign products in Kathmandu and burned them down.
The company said in a letter to the government that the management staffs had received the death threats; to keep the restaurants opened had been life threatening to senior managers; for the safety of the restaurants and the staff, the company shut down the restaurants for an indefinite period.
