Corruption A Major Challenge To The Country

February 11, 2011: speaking at the anniversary of Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has said that corruption has become a major challenge to the country; the government is working on an action plan to deal with the corruption effectively; currently, the country is going through a transition period, so, corruption has been so widespread; he has committed to fight the rampant corruption plaguing the country, nepalnews.com reports.

He has said that the corruption and embezzlement of state resources has been shame on the people’s representatives sitting in the parliament and assured the people of the government taking appropriate measures to curb them.

Prime Minister Khanal has appreciated the CIAA’s attempts on fighting corruption despite facing numerous challenges such as lack of legal tools, adequate resources and cooperation of the concerned ministers on providing information on corruption cases in the past. He called on the lawmakers to pass the Anti-corruption Bill pending at the parliamentary for opening the door to sign the International Convention against corruption.
