Ninth Nepal-China Consultative Mechanism Ends

Issue 34, August 19, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 13, 2012: the Ninth Nepal-China Consultative Mechanism meeting has ended in Kathmandu today. At the meeting, both the Nepalese and the Chinese teams discussed various issues of mutual interests such as promotion of bilateral trade, development of infrastructure in the border areas, increased Chinese investment in Nepal, promotion of tourism and progress in the China-assisted projects in Nepal.

Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Durga Prasad Bhattarai led the Nepalese team whereas Chinese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Fu Ying led the Chinese team. Nepal and China had set up the foreign-secretary-level-consultative mechanism in 1966 with a provision to hold a meeting every four years in turn in Nepal and China.

Fu arrived in Kathmandu from Bhutan on August 11, 2012 on a four–day visit to Nepal. She had met with Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and discussed the bilateral issues. At the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister holding the portfolio of Foreign Minister, she appreciated “one-China policy” the government of Nepal had adopted.
