Issue 14, April 04, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

April 1, 2010: Acting President of NC Sushil Koirala has presided over the meeting of the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM) held at the parliamentary party office of NC in Kathmandu on March 31, 2010, and has decided to jointly fight back the systematic assaults launched by the regressive forces on federalism, republicanism and secularism. They have been serious about the attempts made by some quarters on overturning the achievements such as federalism, republicanism and secularism of the people’s movement.

The top leaders of the three major parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML have also agreed on promulgating a new constitution within the deadline set for it taking the peace process to a logical end.

They have also in principle agreed on setting up a high level state-restructuring commission following the Article 138 of the Interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007.

They have also agreed on regularly holding the meeting of the HLPM and the leader of each party will preside over the meeting in rotation. Chairman of CPN-UML will preside over the next meeting. Prachanda has presided over the first meeting of the HLPM after the demise of Girija Prasad Koirala.
