Nepalis Remit One Billion Rupees
Around 1.4 million Nepalis working abroad and among them, 75 thousand women remit about one billion rupees a year. On December 09, 2007, an alliance of organizations working in the field of foreign employment, National Network for Secured Migration holding a press conference in Kathmandu stressed on the need for secured, smooth, easily available, dignified and accountable foreign employment. The Network also urged the government to ratify United Nations Convention on Migrants Rights of 1990 and arrange for an information system, training, loan and security for women workers. The Network also demanded the government to make an arrangement for the migrant workers to vote through the embassies and the consulates abroad. (The Rising Nepal of December 10, 2007)
