RPP Not Joining Deuba Administration

KTM Metro Reporter

July 29, 2017

Kathmandu: The central committee meeting of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Kamal Thapa has presided over, has decide not to join the current cabinet of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, as the Deuba administration has not been serious about enforcing the Constitution and resolving the Madhesh problem, the news in “gorkhapatra” of today stated.

Chairman Thapa demanded five ministerial portfolios including the deputy prime minister for himself to join the Deuba cabinet but Prime Minister Deuba could offer only four cabinet ministers which Chairman Thapa could not accept, according to the widely publicized news in the Nepalese media.

Prime Minster Deuba knew that even if Chairman Thapa would join the cabinet and proved to be a helping hand for the headcount for the two-thirds majority for amending the Constitution to meet the demands of the Madheshi leaders, the two-thirds majority has been beyond the reach without the participation of CPN-UML. So, Deuba needed not the support of Thapa for the amendment when the amendment had been almost impossible.

Once, Chairman Thapa did not have the ministerial positions including the deputy minister, Thapa found that the Deuba administration was not serous about everything he could see. He even retracted his past position of supporting the amendment to the Constitution. Thus, Thapa wanted to trade his support for the Deuba administration for several ministerial portfolios. In fact, he had been doing so in the past, too.
