Another Extension Of Term of Constituent Assembly

issue 44, October 30, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

October 29, 2011: Speaking at a function held at Kirtipur yesterday to celebrate the Nepal New Year 1132 following the Nepal Samvat, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda has said that the parliament might need to extend the term of the Constituent Assembly for six months to complete the peace process and a new constitution, as the three major political parties have been building a consensus on integrating the combatants and discussing the few issues such as the number of states to be set up, form of administration and so on; as a result, the constituent Assembly would be able to bring out the first draft of a new constitution by November 30, 2011 when the current term of the Constituent Assembly expires.

Prachanda has said that he has been optimistic of all these things because of the positive results of the intensive discussions his party has held with the Nepali Congress during the last few days; consequently, he sees the possibility of completing at least the preliminary draft of a new constitution by November 30, 2011.

Prachanda also has said that Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on Status of Disappeared People would be set up within a few days.
