April 27: While watching the military parade held in marking the overthrow of the Soviet-backed regime in Afghanistan 16 years ago, President Hamid Karzai and other dignitaries came under attack of the Taliban militants. Security whisked away the president and other dignitaries to safety. However, at least one Member of Parliament and three others were killed and several others inured in the attack. The US and UK ambassadors and the NATO military commander were among the dignitaries watching the military parade.
