Issue 48, November 25, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 19, 2012: the leaders of the opposition coalition of the NC and CPN-UML obviously happy to see the head of state President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav telling them he would formally ask all political parties to form a government of the national consensus following the Interim Constitution if they failed to reach a consensus by November 22, 2012.

If the president is really mean a consensus government then it will never be formed. So, the opposition leaders are happy because soon most probably the president will handpicked anyone of them to the office of prime minister.

Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that President Ram Baran Yadav has not set a deadline for building a political consensus on major issues such as the budget and the elections; and the president has assured them of not making any decision on any issue with the consensus at the meeting of all political leaders held at the office of the president today.

Deputy Prime Minister holding the portfolio of Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gacchedar told reporters that the President urged the political leaders to build a consensus on all key issues by November 22.

The opposition leaders claimed that the President would formally ask them to form a government of a national consensus with a timeline following the Interim Constitution if they failed to build a consensus by November 22, 2012.

Leader of UCPN-Maoist Amik Sherchan said that the President has no authority to ask the political parties to form a new government if the president were to follow the Interim Constitution; the president is a ceremonial and he needs to follow whatever the prime minister recommends him to do.
