Magsaysay Award To Shakti Samuha Of Nepal

September 1, 2013: a Nepalese non-governmental organization called Shakti Samuha received the Ramon Magsaysay Award of 2013 for making a significant contribution to combat the women trafficking in Nepal.

 

A group of women trafficked and suffered several years in the Indian brothels headed by Chirimaya Tamang have set up Shakti Samuha to fight against the women trafficking, and rehabilitate the trafficked women.

 

Chief Justice of Supreme Court of the Philippines Maria Lourdes Sereno presented the award of US dollars 50,000 and letter of appreciation to Chairperson of Shakti Samuha Sunita Danuwar at a special ceremony at the CCP Main Theater in Manila on Saturday: the 55th memorial day of former President of the Philippines Ramon Magsaysay killed in an air crash.

 

Four Nepalis such as Mahesh Chandra Regmi, journalist Bharat Dutta Koirala, eye surgeon Sanduk Ruit and Mahabir Pun received the Magsaysay Award in the past.
