February 17, 2011: marking the Seventh anniversary of the killing of the then-15-year old girl Maina Sunuwar of the Kavre district, various human rights advocates have held a three-day campaign against impunity in Nepal, ‘The Rising Nepal’ writes today.
At a press conference held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, officials of the Collective Campaign for Peace (COCAP) have said that they have launched the three-day campaign starting on Tuesday calling for bringing the perpetrators of killing of Sunuwar to justice following the Nepalese Penal Law.
Speaking at the same program, Director of Advocacy Forum Mandira Sharma has said that she has been disappointed by the government not taking actions against the killer of Sunuwar and not doing justice to the family of the victim even after the court has issued an order for punishing the perpetrators of killing of Sunuwar.
Previous defense Minister of former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has not only delivered one of the killers of Maina Sunuwar but also even protected Major Niranjan Basnet sent back by the UN Mission because the Kavre District Court wanted him for killing Maina.
At the same forum, mother of Maina Sunuwar, Devi Sunuwar has said that she has been going from pillar to post for past seven years seeking justice for her fallen daughter but the government has not only failed in delivering justice but also has covered up the perpetrators of killing of her daughter.
