Power-cut Due To Ministers Not Accountable To People

Issue 01, January 3, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Thanks to Prime Minister Madhav Nepal not accountable to the people and his Energy Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat equally not accountable to the people, Nepalis have the power-cut for eight hours a day starting on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Probably, this is the New Year gift the irresponsible ministers want to present to the Nepalis.

During the last seven months of the Madhav Nepal’s administration, nothing has been done to mitigate the shortage of power supply. Rather Prime Minister and his Energy Minister have gone to Copenhagen for a weeklong holiday at the cost of the Nepalese taxpayers. Currently, they are in China again for holidaying at the cost of the Nepalese taxpayers. They are not concerned with the people’s sufferings from the power-cut and the economic and business losses due to the short supply of power. They have been taking benefits from the current positions as much as possible, as they don’t know how long their ministerial portfolios will last.

Energy Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has talked about importing power from India and rehabilitating and building even new thermal plants for mitigating the shortage of power in the past but recently he has even stopped from talking about these things not to mention actually taking measures to add at least a few megawatt power to the main grid of power supply.
