Two Recent Political Events Relevant To Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
April 8, 2010: the first event is in Kyrgyzstan; the spontaneous people’s protest against the corrupt president heavily tainted with election-rigging has forced him to flee the capital and the opposition has taken over and declared elections within six months. The spiraling cost of living has triggered the protest and overthrew the president.
The circumstances in Kyrgyzstan might have some similarities in Nepal and might encouraged the opposition parties to stage similar protests against the Prime Minister that has not been able to manage the political situation and has been responsible for rising prices of foods and fuels in Nepal.
Another political event is in Thailand. The Thai government has imposed a state of emergency to manage the opposition protest against the government but how long at what cost to the democratic norms and values.
The event in Thailand might emboldened the repressive elements to do the similar things in Nepal despite the president’s denial of imposing either a presidential or army rule in Nepal.
