Nepalese Gurungs Celebrate Tamu Lhosar

On December 30, 2009, ethnic Nepalese Gurungs called Tamus have celebrated the New Year festival called Lhosar across the country and abroad. One day before the festival they make offerings to their ancestors following the tradition of first feeding the ancestors.

In Kathmandu, Gurung men and women have assembled at Tundikhel to celebrate Lohsar. In their best traditional dresses and jewelry, Gurung men and women have celebrated the Lhosar dancing together to the tune of songs and music. They have also held their different cultural activities.

The Gurungs are one of the warrior groups of Nepal, and famous for their bravery, ethnic tradition and culture. So, their main occupation after the agriculture has been to serve in different armies including British and Indian armies. They are spread all over Nepal and abroad.
