British Government Ready To Provide Nepal With Any Kind Of Support

April 1, 2010: British Prime Minister’s advisor on peace Jack McConnell has met with Prime Minister Madhav Nepal on March 31, 2010 and assured him of the British government providing Nepal with all kinds of assistance required for completing the peace process and the writing of a new constitution, as currently Nepal is passing through the critical moment of the political development.

Speaking to the reporters after the meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. McConnell has said that Britain and Nepal have been the historical friends; so the British government wants to help Nepal for completing the peace process and writing a new constitution. He has also informed the reporters that he has asked the Nepalese Prime Minister about the extension of term of the UN Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR) and UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) in Nepal.

Mr. McConnell has arrived at Kathmandu on March 31, 2010 for a three-day official visit to Nepal, met with the Prime Minister at his office in Singha Durbar, and turned over a letter from British Prime Minister Gordon Brown to Mr. Nepal according to the foreign affair advisor Rajan Bhattarai.

Mr. McConnell also has met with UCPN-Maoist Chairman Prachanda in the afternoon and also turned over a letter from the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Prachanda has informed Mr. McConnell about the meeting of the High Level Political Mechanism and about the completion of the peace process and the writing of a new constitution. Prime Minister Brown has advised Prachanda to make compromise on all possible matters for taking the country to a lasting peace and political stability.
