Nepal Increases Exports To China

December 27, 2012: Nepal has increased its exports to China four folds during the first four months of the current fiscal year but not enough to offset the trade imbalance between Nepal and China.
Imports from China have reached to Rs 24.76 billion but the exports have increased from Rs 240 million to Rs 980 million hardly making any dent on the trade imbalance between Nepal and China keeping the trade imbalance at Rs 23.78 billion in favor of China, according to the Xinhua news posted on the dnaindia.com
Nepalese exports to China comprise mostly handicrafts such as metal crafts, woolen shawls called ‘pashmina’ and other woolen products, and foodstuffs such as wheat flour, noodles and chocolates.
Nepalese traders are hopeful to increase the exports to China once the dry port at Larcha in Nepal near the China border becomes operational. Last week, Nepalese Commerce Secretary Lalmani Joshi and Chinese Ambassador Yang Houlan jointly laid the foundation stone for constructing the Larcha dry port with the funding from China.
