Weapon Import from India

Issue 31, August 2, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On July 26, 2009, the United Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist has called an all-party meeting at its parliamentary office to discuss the government’s intention of importing weapons from India. Members of the Nepali Congress and Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) did not show up in the meeting.

At the same time, in the meeting of parliamentarians belonging to the CPN-UML, most of the members have sharply criticized the Prime Minister and his Defense Minister for intending to import weapons from India. They also have criticized the Finance Minister for submitting a budget for the fiscal year 2009 with the programs having funny targets.

The UNMIN has also stated that the import of weapons would be against the ongoing peace process in Nepal.
