State Minister In Trouble

Issue 46, November 15, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On November 12, 2009, leaders of the Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-democratic lead by the outspoken Deputy Prime Minister Bijya Gacchedar have questioned the Minister of State for Agriculture and Cooperative Karima Begum about the incident in the Parsa District. According to the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ she has said that the Chief District Officer in question had ignored the Minister’s call for cooperation and had refused to talk on the telephone; all these things have been unbearable to the state minister, so, she has slapped the officer. Some party members have been demanding the leadership to recall Begum from the government for the offence she has committed

At the same time, the Parsa District Police have requested the District Police offices of all three districts in the Kathmandu Valley to cooperate on arresting the State Minister Begum on the charge of the public offence. If the police really want to take the minister in custody they could do within a moment but the police have been staging a public drama of arresting the minister.

In protest against the State Minister’s misbehavior to the Chief District Officer, employees of the state administration have stopped working for two hours in the Parsa District on November 12, 2009, too.
