By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On Wednesday, January 23, 2008, after the students’ rallies protesting the price rise of petroleum products for two days, the Prime Minister of Nepal ordered the state-run Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) to roll back the price rise of petroleum products it has introduced effective at midnight on Monday, January 21, 2008. This was the third time the Government of Nepal increased the prices of petroleum products during the last few months.

Nepalese students held rallies protesting the price rise of petroleum products across the country on Tuesday, January 22, and Wednesday, January 23, 2008. The NOC had increased the prices of diesel, kerosene, and methane gas by 20% on Monday. The protest rallies of students brought the vehicular traffic to standstill across the country for two days causing a huge loss to the national economy, and inconvenience to the travelers.
