Assault of State Minister Creating Problem for Government

Issue 47, November 22, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

The State-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of November 19, 2009, has reported that the Chairman of the Makwanpur Bar Association, Isworraj Dhakal has filed a public offence case at the Appellate Court in Hetauda against the Minister of State for Agriculture and Cooperative Karima Begum for slapping the Chief District Officer of the Parsa District four times breaking his glasses before the number of people standing there, and has demanded the court to arrest the State Minister for legal actions against her. Following the tip-offs of the Home Minister and Prime Minister, the State Minister has attempted to counter charge the Chief District Officer stating the Chief District Officer has held her hand, so he had slapped the officer in anger.

At the same time, various associations of the state employees have given Prime Minister Madhav Nepal the deadline of November 20, 2009 for taking actions against the State Minister for assault on the Chief District Officer. Thereafter, they would launch a nationwide protest against the government for not taking actions against the State Minister. They also have accused the Prime Minister of not taking actions against the State Minister for fear of getting trouble for his government. The assault of the State Minister on the Chief District Officer has terrorized the state employees.
