Requesting for Calling Session of Legislature

Issue 07, February 15, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On Monday, February 9, 2009, the meeting of representatives of the 18 political parties represented in the Constituent Assembly called by the Nepali congress, and held at its main office at Sanepa, Lalitpur decided to request the government for calling the session of the legislature-parliament immediately. They have made such a call for stopping the government from running the administration through ordinances, as this practice of introducing ordinances would weaken democracy. If the government would not comply with the request then they would submit a proposal for calling the session. The interim Constitution of Nepal of 2007 has the provision for calling the session of the legislature-parliament if one third of the members of the Constituent Assembly propose it. Six parties including UCPN-Maoist and Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF) did not attend the meeting.
