No Provision For Neutral Gender In MRP Of Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter
July 27, 2011: the Myagdi district administration office has refused to issue a machine-readable passport to a person with the citizenship certificate with the third gender or neutral gender stating the MRPs have no such provision to mention the third gender so any person should be either male or female for the purpose of MRPs; it is a technical problem.
In order to resolve this technical problem, the third gender person has filed a case in the Supreme Court of Nepal demanding the apex court to order the Myagdi district administration office for issuing a MRP to the third gender person.
The Supreme Court of Nepal had ruled in 2007 to recognize the third gender persons. So, the third gender person would not have a problem of the Supreme Court of Nepal instructing the Myagdi district administration to issue a MRP to the third gender person but the problem is the technical one. They need MRPs with the column of third gender.
