Progress In Holding Talks With Election-opposing Parties

August 13, 2013: at the meeting held at Nayabaneswor today, the four-party political mechanism and the Federal Democratic Front (FDF) are close to an agreement on four out of the six demands put forth by the FDF, leaders of both sides said after the talks, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
The four-party political mechanism and the FDF in principle have reached an agreement on the demands for increasing the number of seats of the Constituent Assembly for the proportional representation amending the 25-point ordinance, extending the time for registering names of the voters that had missed to register, and not making the four-party political mechanism active, according to leader of UCPN-Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha. However, they could not reach an agreement on the demand of the FDF for the Chairman of the Interim Election Council of Ministers quitting the position of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nepal, and for increasing the number of electoral constituencies based on the population established by the population census of 2011.
Spokesperson for FDF Prashuram Tamang said that the talks were held in a cordial atmosphere and they have been close to an agreement on four out of the six demands of the FDF. Spokesman Tamang said that although the FDF was positive on taking part in the elections, it has not made a decision on this matter, according to the RSS news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav held a meeting with Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi at the Official Residence of the president today morning. At the meeting, President Dr. Yadav inquired about the progress made in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, and in the talks held with the election-opposing political parties, according to the news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
Chairman IECM Regmi told the journalists after the meeting, it was a regular meeting with the President and that discussions on different contemporary issues were held at the meeting.
At the meeting held at Nayabaneswor today, the four-party political mechanism has decided to finish off the talks with the different fronts of the election-opposing political parties by August 16, 2013.
