Government’s Decisions

On January 15, 2009, Minister for Information and Communications and Spokesman for the government Krishna Bahadur Mahara told the reporters that the government in the Cabinet meeting made the following decisions: 1) declared Uma Singh recently killed by an unidentified gang a reporter martyr and provide her family with one millions rupees as compensation for the loss of life, 2) appointed Dipendra Bahadur Chhetri new governor of the Central Bank called Nepal Rastra Bank from among three persons recommended for the position, 3) reconstituted the Army Integration Special Committee under the Prime Minister with members such as Defense Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa of the Unified CPN-Maoist, Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam and Bhim Rawal of the CPN-UML, Minister for Agriculture Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta and Mohammed Habibullash of Madheshi People’s Rights  Forum (MPRF) and two members of the NC to be appointed, and 4) appointed professor Guna Nidhi Sharma the Vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission, Laxmi Devkota, Dinesh Devkota, Prem Kunwar and Ram Mani Pokhrel members.
