June 4, 2012: at the meeting held at the official residence of the prime minister on Sunday evening, June 3, 2012, the coalition of UCPN-Maoist and UDMF has decided to squarely meet with the opposition the NC and CPN-UML have launched against the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly and the fresh CA elections in November 2012.
The coalition of UCPN-Maoist and UDMF has made a decision on going to the people to counter the blame placed by the NC and CPN-UML on the coalition for the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
"We have decided to go to the people to check all the rumors the NC and UML are spreading among the people. They are blaming us for the dissolution of the CA and we have to inform the people about the truth; we will discuss the matter with the 19 parties supporting the government. We will also discuss this with the pro-federal forces including indigenous peoples, civil society, intellectuals and journalists" said Mahendra Ray Yadav, chairman of Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party-Nepal: one of the members of UDMF, after the meeting according to the news in ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today.
Acting Chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Republican and Information and Communications Minister Raj Kishor Yadav said that rejecting the fresh CA elections in November 2012, the NC and the CPN-UML have been going against the democratic norms and values.
Speaking at a press conference held by the Reporters’ Club in Birgunj on Sunday, June 3, 2012, Chairman of Terai Madhesh Loktantrik Party Mahantha Thakur said that identity-based federalism would be the key political agenda of his party in the forthcoming elections to the Constituent Assembly; the UCPN-Maoist and the United Democratic Madheshi Front would maintain the current alliance during the elections, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. "UDMF will contest the CA election by forming an alliance between the Maoists and the UDMF; we have already held the first round of the meeting with the Maoists to this effect," he said.
Central Committee members of the CPN-UML belonging to the indigenous and ethnic groups did not show up at the central committee meeting in which Chairman Jhalanath Khanal presented his document on various subject matters including the dissolution of Constituent Assembly, election announcement, resignation of Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, formation of a national consensus government and the issues raised by the indigenous and ethnic leaders of his party for discussions, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. Alternative politburo member Prithvi Subba Gurung instead of attending the central committee meeting, threatened to desert the party in Pokhara stating that the party did not want to address the issues of the indigenous and ethnic people.
At the politburo meeting held on Saturday, June 2, 2012, the CPN-UML leaders decided to set up a commission on state restructuring to keep the leaders of ethnic background that threatened to quit the party and form a separate political party in the party. However, politburo members Prithivi Subba Gurung, Ram Chandra Jha, Mangal Siddhi Manandhar and Bijay Subba, who have been warning that they would have to defect if the party leadership continued to ignore the "sentiments" of its janjati and Madhesi leaders, also rejected party's proposal to form the commission on state restructuring. They termed the party leadership's proposal to form the commission on state restructuring as a ploy to keep them engaged in petty matters and termed it quite "meaningless" according to the news on nepalnews.com.
