UCPN-Maoist Going Back To A Single Leadership System
By KTM Metro Reporter
July 23, 2013: The extended meeting of the UCPN-Maoist Sunday approved the proposal of Chairman Prachanda for a single leadership system that will enhance his authority in the party. With the endorsement of his proposal, the party entered into a single leadership system until a national convention slated to be held after the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections in November, according to the news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com.’
The party had adopted a collective leadership from a single-person leadership in the past. The party reverted to a single-person leadership again.
On the first day of the extended meeting held at the Khanna Garments in Lalitpur, Chairman Prachanda proposed dissolving the four-member office bearers system and introducing an all powerful chairman-led one man headquarters by demoting all top office bearers including vice-chairs and general secretaries to central committee members.
The meeting also accepted the resignations of vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and general secretary Post Bahadur Bogati; however, it did not approve the resignation of vice-chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai rather urged him to take back his resignation.
The recent political scenario has been most of the leaders: new comers and old ones have been fighting for the positions. Thus, accepting the entry of new faces defected from other parties to the UCPN-Maoist; the party leadership has led itself to a weakening position. This new step of consolidating power in the hands of a single person has to be done to bring the chaos in the party to order.
