Conflict-era Case Not To Reopen

Issue 32, August 11, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 8, 2013: Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire has said that the conflict-era case of the brutal murder of Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Gorkha by the then CPN-Maoist activists cannot be opened for investigation, according to the nepalnews.com.

Minister Ghimire made the government’s position on the case clear that it cannot entertain the petition filed by the Adhikari's parents: Nanda Prasad and Gangamaya for opening the case against the alleged murders of their son.

At a meeting held at National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) yesterday, Minister Ghimire has said that the government has decided not to pursue any conflict-era cases. The minister, however, said that the government has sympathy for the untiring struggle of the Adhikari's family to seek justice for their dead son.

At the meeting, chairman of NHRC Kedar Nath Upadhyay urged the government to immediately start investigation into the murder of Adhikari otherwise it would be a mockery of the law; the government cannot stop the investigation into the conflict-era cases simply by its decision.

Member of NHRC Ram Nagina Singh said that the government gave the compensation to the family of Krishna Prasad Adhikari following the recommendation of the NHRC but the government did not take any legal actions against the culprits; it was wrong not to take actions against the murders.
