Promoting Gaurab Shumsher To Second-in-command of Nepal Army

July 7, 2011: following the recommendation submitted by the Nepal Army, the government has made a decision on promoting Major Gen Gaurab Shumsher Rana to the second-in-command of the Nepal Army. The incumbent Chief of Army Staff Chhatra Man Singh Gurung is retiring on September 9, 2012. Thereafter, Mr. Rana can takeover the office of Chief of Army Staff.

According to the local media reports, the Nepal Army has recommended promoting Major Generals Gaurab Shumsher Rana and Nepal Bhusan Chand but the government has promoted only Rana making him eligible to the office of the Chief of Army Staff leaving Chand behind him.
